INFRARED THERMOGRAPHY
Infrared Thermography performed by a skilled and knowledgeable practitioner can reveal a building’s performance issues invisible to the naked eye. Thermography measures surface temperatures with specialized photographic equipment. Careful observation of the resulting thermograms can reveal issues pertaining to escaping air, thermal inefficiencies, and water leaks.
3iVE has staff with infrared certification paired with extensive knowledge of how building envelopes are constructed and perform. Using both interior and exterior thermograms and other non-destructive measures, we are often able to reveal conditions such as:
- Wet / leaking roofs and walls
- Air infiltration through windows, doors, and even roofs and walls
- Uninsulated areas of buildings
- Conditions with potential for mold growth
A thermographic inspection paired with a carefully prepared and peer reviewed set of documents, and site inspections with field testing during construction can provide a measure of comfort that a building’s performance will match its Owners expectations and Project Requirements.
Similarly, a thermographic investigation can reveal probably sources of difficult performance issues in a non-destructive manner.
3iVE often pairs thermographic investigations with Whole Building Air Tests running concurrently. Together these two tests can provide a useful understanding of a building’s performance characteristics.
